Waterfront Seafood at Quito’s in Bristol

Bristol’s Quito’s Restaurant is a beloved local spot that has been serving up fresh seafood since 1954. Located right on the waterfront at the edge of Independence Park a stone’s throw from the statue of Columbus, the restaurant offers stunning views of Bristol Harbor, making it a perfect place to enjoy a meal while watching the boats drift by. The cozy indoor dining area provides a warm and inviting atmosphere, while the outdoor patio is ideal for soaking up the sun during the warmer months.

From the shore, Quito’s looks like the quintessential clam shack, but the covered outdoor seating and the cozy indoor seating for colder weather behind the clam shack facade shows that it’s a real restaurant.

The menu at Quito’s is a seafood lover’s dream. It features a wide array of dishes, from classic New England clam chowder and lobster rolls to fried whole belly clams and seafood casseroles. One of my personal favorites is the fish and chips, which is always crispy and delicious. The clam cakes, however, are a standout. These golden, crispy morsels are packed with tender clams and are perfect for a quick snack or a light meal.

While we’ve dined at Quito’s many times over the years, we most frequently opt to order a dozen clam cakes to take along with us as we explore Bristol’s charming downtown. There’s something special about enjoying these tasty treats while strolling through the historic streets, popping into local shops, or relaxing by the waterfront.

Bristol itself is steeped in history, dating back to its founding in 1680. The town center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is known for its well-preserved waterfront district, which includes commercial enterprises, civic buildings, churches, and historic homes. Bristol was also the site of the first battle of King Philip’s War in 1675. Today, it is home to several museums, including the Herreshoff Marine Museum and the Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum.

It’s worth noting that Quito’s can get very busy on summer weekends, so if you’re planning to dine in be prepared for a bit of a wait. However, the wait is well worth it for the fresh, flavorful seafood and the unbeatable harbor views.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Quito’s is a must-visit spot in Bristol. The combination of delicious food, friendly service, and a picturesque setting makes it a dining experience you won’t soon forget.
