In-motion Satellite TV: The "Must-Have" Option
Travel Article
There's point A. There's point B. Then there's the point where people decide to make their time on the road more enjoyable. It used to be that you needed an RV to relax and enjoy the luxuries of home while you were on the road, but that's changing. Or rather, that's converting. The conversion van industry is busy transforming dreams into customized reality in low-clearance vehicles, and mobile satellite TV continues to top the list of luxury options.

Avoiding Hassles in the Air
Preparing for your next airplane flight

Mail It To Yourself
Items Prohibited on Airlines Don't Need To Be Forfeited
By G.W. Kirk
My aged aunt lost her favorite scissors a few months ago. They were tiny folding scissors with her name engraved on the side, a gift from her own, now departed, favorite aunt. She took them with her on a flight out of TF Green Airport, never imagining that the rules designed to keep dangerous weapons off airplanes could possibly apply to her tiny pair of scissors.

Visiting For The Long Term
Candlewood Suites
By Paul Pence
When I first took Linda to Texas to meet my family, we needed a comfortable homebase -- a place with not only a comfortable bed, but also a kitchen, laundry facilities, and room to spread out as we explored. My mother's house had only limited air conditioning, and staying with relatives always means disrupting their schedules and routines, so we looked for a conveniently located long-stay hotel. We found Candlewood Suites.

Elegance On The Newport Cliff Walk
Chanler Hotel, Newport RI
By Paul Pence
A few months ago, my wife and I had a chance to stay at the Chanler Hotel in Newport. As travel writers, we had been the guests of many excellent hotels and restaurants, but we were completly amazed that we would have a place as elegant as the Chanler right here in Rhode Island. And Newport's Cliff Walk, is exactly where a mansion-turned-hotel should be.
Getting There For Less
Cheap Airfares Still Abound
By Matthew Keegan
Despite the anguish being felt because of ultra high fuel prices, many airlines are still offering deep discounts on flights as the busy holiday travel season approaches. This is good news for consumers, but bad news for struggling carriers who absolutely cannot sustain this practice permanently. Consumers should take care how they book and pay for their flights and be careful which airlines they choose to fly with. Although no carrier appears to be ready to shut down altogether, consumers must remain informed in order to avoid being left stranded.
Bigger and Better
Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Crossings helps Warwick compete for bigger meetings & conventions
It has 266 bedrooms, huge ballrooms, lawns big enough for kennel shows, and a huge indoor swimming pool. No, it's not another Rhode Island mansion, it's the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Crossings in Warwick, only 2 miles from TF Green Airport. And now it's even bigger, with a copper-domed rotunda and new ballrooms expanding its meeting space to 33,000 square feet, giving it the largest function space of any Rhode Island hotel.
Can you afford to drink and drive?
Just tip your waitress 14 grand and get behind the wheel
This holiday season, if you are tempted to have one for the road and then get behind the wheel, why not just tip your waitress $14,000, call a cab, and save yourself a lot of grief? If you can't afford that tip, you can't afford to drive drunk either.

When Your Child Has to Fly Solo
By Marlene Coleman, M.D., author of Safe and Sound - Healthy Travel With Children
There are many reasons why your child might need to make an unaccompanied flight. In fact, for some children, unaccompanied travel is routine: summer trips to visit a parent or grandparent, trips to school or camp, or even a last-minute entry into a sports or academic competition. But today, as travel rules become more complex and stringent for everyone, even the most experienced young travelers are encountering new challenges.

Setting one apart from another is the innkeepers and their personalities, the styles of the B&B's, the amenities offered, and of course the proximity to the area attractions, like the treasured waterfront.

The Slater River Boat B&B, Pawtucket RI
The Samuel Slater B&B is perhaps the most unusual lodging in Rhode Island. While other bed and breakfasts can provide a river view, breakfast brought to your room, Eurpoean elegance, and a great measure of privacy and solitude, the Samuel Slater canal boat stretches the definition of B&B to include the word "Boat".

Skip Boston's Airport – Take Rhode Island's
TF Green Airport (PVD)
By Paul Pence
From the time you park in the long-term parking so close that you can stroll to the terminal, that Rhode Island's TF Green airport is a better choice than Boston's Logan Airport. Actually, it was probably obvious during the drive to the airport, with easy uncongested interstate access, unlike Boston's freeways twisted into tight, crowded, ever-changing pretzels by their mulit-billion dollar "big dig" project. It takes less time to drive to TF Green than Logan from almost anywhere south or west of downtown Boston.

Y2K at the White House
One reader's stay at Newport's White House Bed and Breakfast
By Paula Pesca
Toward the end of December, 1999, I started thinking that maybe my husband and I really should do something to celebrate the "New Millennium". Everyone had been talking about taking trips, going to huge parties, celebrating big time to welcome the Year 2000, but we hadn't given it much thought. Not wanting to travel far or spend tons of money, I came up with the idea of staying in a Bed & Breakfast somewhere in Newport. It would be different, (for us anyway), living in Rhode Island all our lives we had never stayed in any hotel or B&B in the State, and we've always loved visiting Newport, so why not?
