The 85th Annual “Around the Island” Race
September 2, 2012
The Conanicut Yacht Club will host the 85th annual Around the Island race on Sunday, September 2, 2012. This annual event is the historic capstone to summer racing on Narragansett Bay and the highlight of Labor Day Weekend for all competitors.
The popular race around Conanicut Island is open to all sailboats that have a PHRF NB (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet of Narragansett Bay) rating. Notice of Race is available at http://www.conanicutyachtclub.org/ATI, Sailing Instructions, Entry Form and additional race and post-race party information will be posted here soon.
“Our organizing committee is raising the bar again to make “Around the Island” the bay’s signature circumnavigation sailing event; a fun and competitive day on the bay to wrap up the sailing season. Two new trophies will be established this year to be awarded for the fastest corrected and uncorrected circumnavigation of Conanicut Island. Competitors will no longer have to brag about being the fastest; their boat’s name will be permanently engraved to commemorate the accomplishment”. – John Mayers, Around the Island Race Organizing Committee Chairman.
A post race party featuring cool libations, dinner prepared by CYC’s own award winning Chef Chris Kaya and an awards ceremony will be held at CYC immediately following the race.
For more information, contact the CYC office at (401) 423-1424 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to seeing all the previous years’ participants on September 2nd and extend our encouraging invitation and welcome to all newcomers.
