Ten Most Romantic Things to do on Valentines Day
In Rhode Island, Of Course
By Linda Eagleson
Ah, Valentines Day. Another day to show your loved one how much you STILL love him or her.
To me, it should be more than just another Hallmark Day. Rather than stick with the traditional card, candy, flowers, dinner, and maybe "dessert", let's think of some different things to do on Valentines Day.
- Pick your sweetie up and head on over to Bickfords for a delicious breakfast. After "all you can eat" pancakes, stop at the Roger Willilams Zoo and walk off the calories. Hold hands and watch the animals frolic in the winter wonderland. Maybe a hot chocolate or two before you start your next "Valentines" adventure. (P.S. This happens to be a favorite place of mine any time of the year. And a wonderful place to propose to your loved one, like Paul did to me in October).
- How about driving to Garden City? Check out the new line of "intimate" wear at Victoria's Secret. Let your sweetie model for you! Or, maybe steal a kiss or two in the dressing room. Then hop on over to Appleby's for a mouth watering lunch. My favorite is the chili (though not too popular later on, if you know what I mean)!
- Next, head on over to the Showcase Cinema at Warwick Mall to catch a matinee . Remember, it's Valentines Day, so no "action" movies, guys. Chic flick is what you want to see for this special day! Sit in the back row and sneak another kiss or two, or three, or four, or five.....ok, I'll stop at five.
- It's still light outside, so let's go for another walk. Take a drive down to Goddard Park in East Greenwich. Yes, a walk along the bay. So what it's cold out -- wear a hat and mittens. Look for shiny rocks and watch the winter ocean for a change of scenery. This is the perfect opportunity to stay "close" to your loved one. You want to keep them warm, right? Snuggle up close to each other in the car, as you listen to "B 105.5".
- Guess it's about time to head indoors. Take a peek into "Peter Pots" flower shop now located in Apponaug Circle. Watch how they arrange their colorful flowers, and oh yeah guys, better not forget to grab some roses as you're leaving.
- Drive to Providence and head back outdoors. Streak along the ice rink at the Fleet Center (with ice skates of course). Catch your sweetie as HE falls down. Kiss his "boo boo" and while you're at it, try a kiss on the lips!
- Still looking for a little more romance? Haven't had enough yet??? My favorite place happens to be Waterfires. Yes, even in the winter. Imagine the city sky line glistening along the waterways as you stroll with your loved one. Check the schedules, there might even be a Waterfire display. Don't forget to linger in the passageways under the bridge with the chandeliers. Couldn't be more perfect place for a warm embrace.
- Ok, getting a little tired. Try the Cheese Cake Factory for some dessert and excitement. Remember to sit on the same side of the booth with your sweetie and share the same dessert. Not into cheesecake? Well, try any of the other fabulous desserts on the menu. My favorite is chocolate covered chocolate covered chocolate. (Ok, I made my point.)
- Almost time to go home, right? No, not yet.. if you remembered to plan ahead. You booked a room at that cozy B&B, the State House Inn in Providence, right? The State House Inn is one of four bed and breakfasts a stone's throw from the State House, all owned by the same family. You got the most expensive room, right? With the fireplace? Did you remember to ask for the room with the biggest bathtub? Big enough to hold two people. And, oh yeah, you remembered the wine and cheese and some chocolate covered strawberries, right? And one more thing, those roses you bought? Place them on the pillow big guy! The rest is history.
- Well, how can we top that last one? I'm not too sure if I can, but I'lll try. After a wonderful night of "getting to know" each other again, let's have breakfast in bed. Girls, remember the item he bought you from Victoria's Secret? Ok, so you didn't get to wear it much last night, but this morning you can. Put it back on when he runs off to the dining room to bring back breakfast. When he gets back, feed each other breakfast, enjoy the last of those strawberries from last night, and sip some hot flavored coffee. Cold? Pull up the covers. Check out time is 11:00, so make it a quickie. Then, grab your tooth brush and head off to where your heart is.
Remember Valentines Day is just another day, but "true love" lives on forever!" So, make every day Valentines Day (and don't forget, women LOVE Godiva Chocolate).
