Drift Away To Romantic Galilee

Romancing Your Sweetie Where the Waves Meet the Sand

By Linda Eagleson

Trying to find romantic places to visit in Rhode Island is quite an easy job. We tend to think of Providence, Newport, Block Island, and Narragansett and even Westerly. There are so many romantic places to visit in these cities, but what about the rest of the state? I decided to explore other cities to give our readers some new adventures. This time, I chose Galilee.

Google
I remember when I was young, my dad used to take my siblings and me to Galilee to just sit on the rocks and watch the boats come in. Of course my imagination would take me to a wonderful place, where I would be waiting on the rocks for my knight in shining armor to arrive with a bag full of clam cakes! So, ok, it took most of my life for him to arrive, but my childhood memories still lived on. Galilee would always remind me of a place where you could dream of romance and enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches. I thought I would describe a romantic day in Galilee.

Start off your day by having breakfast at any of the stops along your way to Galilee. Or better yet, pack a picnic breakfast and just lounge on the beach watching the early morning sun crest above the beautiful sky line.

Not a morning person? How about brunch at the local establishments? Or better yet, wait until lunch at Champlains overlooking the port of Galilee. Enjoy a wonderful meal while watching the boats meander into the port. Maybe hold your sweetie's hand and when she's not looking, steal her lobster claw.

Done with that? Then, head on over to George's later in the day for their famous clam cakes.

After that you'll want to relax for awhile so grab a blanket and head to the beach. It is small, but intimate. Even test the water a bit. It will probably be chilly, but you have your sweetie to keep you warm.

Not cold yet? How about some ice cream or frozen yogurt? Ah, go for a sundae that you and your sweetie can share together. There a couple of different places located along the main street in Galilee, so you have a selection to chose from.

So, tired of the beach scene? Walk around beautiful Galilee. There are many different types of shops to visit. Not all of them are the typical tourist shops, so you can get something useful. Get your sweetie to treat you to something special. Really into togetherness? There are always the "duo t shirts" that both of you would probably appreciate.

Getting hungry again but you want something a little more "upscale" than clamcakes? Try Finbacks, which is located along the wharf on the far side of Galilee. It has been recently remodeled so you would embark on a new adventure there. While eating your meal, whether inside or outside, you can view the beautiful oceanside and watch the yachts and fishing boats pack it in for the night. Being right on the docks, Finbacks will offer you a variety of freshly caught fish daily. I usually opt for the scallops while my hubby likes the linguine with clam sauce. Sit side by side and share your meal with your sweetie.

You don't have to travel far if you want late night entertainment. Finbacks have karoke night quite often. You can really get to know someone by their "singing" or rather "attempt at signing". If karoke isn't your cup of tea, you could try out George's restaurant, which has entertainment in their upstairs lounge offering a variety of live vocalists and bands. Dance cheek to cheek with your sweetie while being swept away by the sounds of the bands and the ocean.

Take a late night stroll along the sandy beaches. On a good night you can even see the outline of Block Island. There are many little cottages along the water, which will light up your way, if you need the light. Let the sand sift through your toes as you snuggle closer to your sweetie along the way.

Ready to call it a night but you don't want to travel that far? Well, you could hop that last ferry to Block Island which leaves at 8PM and try a B & B over there. But, if you want something within walking distance, try the recently renovated Lighthouse Inn in Galilee. It offers a full service restaurant and lounge, fitness room, heated pool and Jacuzzi and over 100 guestrooms. Make your reservations, try the live entertainment offered outside and then relax with your sweetie in the hot tub at the Inn. It will be an adventure to remember.

So there you have it, a wonderful day at Galilee, and maybe even an evening (if you are lucky). So, come and enjoy. Oh yeah, don't forget to try some of Rhode Island's salt-water taffy. It's the best!
