More Pool Tables Than You Can Shake A Cue At

Boston Billiards, Warwick, RI

By Mat Johnson and Brian Maksymowicz

If you’re looking for a nice place to get a drink after work with some friends, catch a quick bite to eat that’s not fast food, and, most importantly, play a game of pool on a real pool table, Boston Billiards is the place.

From outside, the size of the building is deceiving. Inside, it’s huge. Large leather couches with tables and chairs sit next to the entrance inviting early people to sit and wait for their friends in comfort. If sitting and having a drink or watching the game is not your style, you can go over to the game room on the opposite side; either way you will not be bored while waiting. Once everyone arrives, go to the main desk at front of the entrance and get the rack of balls for your table. Someone will have to leave a license at the front desk to ensure that no one will walk off with a nice new set of billiard balls. Before you get to your table, make sure you check out the score of the game on the massive television on the back wall above all the tables. (But then you can’t miss it if you had to.)

Even the most avid pool player would be pleased with the pool table area. Over 40 tables fill the main floor from left to right and go back until to the end of the building. All of the tables are high-quality, full size tables and are meticulously maintained. Ample room around each table ensures that bumping your neighbor is of little concern. Bar-like tables and chairs are strategically scattered around the table area so you can place your drink down and play or sit down and watch others play. The rear houses tables in an “authentic” billiard room complete with more leather couches and chairs, private televisions and books lining the walls. These rooms are perfect for a private party, a business function, or just a group of friends who want to be away from the main pool area.

If you don’t have your own pool cue don’t worry, plenty of pretty good pool cues are available or you can rent a “custom cue” for only $2 extra at the front desk. And not to worry, if you need a new pool cue or want to upgrade you current cue you can do so through their “pro shop.”

If hunger strikes you have no fear, Boston Billiards offers a full menu that they serve late into the night so you can skip the fast food on the ride home. For a pool hall, the food is pretty good. The menu has something for everyone on it and all the prices are reasonable. To bring the food to you there are plenty of cocktail waitresses roaming around bringing you whatever you decide to order. Having a friendly wait staff adds immensely to the atmosphere of an establishment and all the girls are very friendly and usually fairly quick to bring out your drink or refill it.

At any time while you’re playing you can rest on the upper level and relax next to the bar. The bar has seats around it with small tables and intimate lighting to make even the most stressful a distant memory. This spot also give you great view of all the tables in the main area so it is perfect if you like to “people watch.”

Boston Billiards is a great place to have a good time and we highly recommend checking it out at least once if you’re a pool player or want to try playing for the first time. Everyday of the week there is a new promotion going on, for example Wednesday night is ladies night, so be sure to get a schedule when you stop by. If you’re looking to start a pool league you can with the help of Boston Billiards. They have a league night where you and your league friends can meet and play.

Located on the Warwick/Cranston line on Route 5, it is easily accessible from either 95 or 295. Abundant parking around Boston Billiards ensures that even the biggest party has enough room to park.
