Providence is the Place for Fine Dining

Food & Wine and AAA’s Car & Travel magazine cite Providence as one of America's best dining destinations

“There’s been a thrilling change in the American culinary landscape,” states Food & Wine magazine in its June edition featuring Providence as one of America’s “truly dynamic food scenes.” The capital city has also captured the attention of AAA’s Car & Travel magazine, which names Providence one of “Five Cookin’ Cities” in its May edition.

“Providence’s growing reputation as a Mecca for world class restaurants is well deserved and has now captured the attention of two premier food and travel publications,” said Mayor David N. Cicilline. “This is a great tribute to the talented chefs and restaurant owners in our city who continue to create dining experiences that are second to none.”

Kicking off a year-long series called “Food and Wine Across America”, Food and Wine magazine remarks on how Providence’s restaurant scene has evolved over the years. “For many years, Providence’s most exhilarating culinary experience was on Federal Hill,” states the writer. “Today, the most exciting restaurants in Providence are scattered about town and run by a network of ambitious young chefs.”

Food and Wine raves over the culinary delights at Nicks on Broadway, La Laiterie, Chez Pascal, Gracies and Garrison Confections.

Car & Travel magazine recommends Al Forno, CAV and Citron restaurants to its readers and states “Providence is a thriving culinary scene that often flies under the radar”. The writer points to the city’s close proximity to the “seafood rich shores of Narragansett Bay” as one of its attributes along with Johnson & Wales University,” a world leader in culinary education.

Here at Rhode Island Roads, we agree completly. Rhode Island is amazingly blessed by J&W and the bounty of the sea, but also by a diverse and educated population. And with the addition of new restaurants almost every week, including the recent additions of Ruth's Chris, Schulla's, and the Temple, we can expect Providence and all of Rhode Island to become an even greater fine dining destination.
