About the author, Charles Rossiter:
Charles Rossiter is an NEA Fellowship recipient for poetry and the winner of Pudding Press' 1999 Red Wheel Barrow award. He is a past Associate Editor of Modern Haiku and a frequent contributor of poems to major haiku publications.

Editor's Note: With apologies to sixth-grade English teachers, haiku are not defined by syllable counts. In fact, the counts (on the rare occasion where they are made) are not syllables, but Japanese language "characters". The 14 syllable traditions most American students are taught do not take into account numerous other forms that these short structured pieces may take. We highly recommend that you read the definitions of haiku and related poetry located at http://www.hsa-haiku.org/HSA_Definitions_2004.html to learn more.
