Bluefish Swim Club At New Engand Swimming Championships
The Bluefish Swim Club is a USA Swimming member and a participant in New England Swimming. The Bluefish Swim Club provides structured instruction, training, and competitive programs for all ages and abilities. Its competitive swim program consists of 117 swimmers ranging in age from 7 to 24, plus adults in its Masters Program. Its members travel as far away as 45 miles to be part of the Bluefish Swim Club, which uses the pools at Attleboro High School, Cumberland (RI) High School, Brandeis University, and the Raynham Athletic Club.
Katie Marshall, 17, of Cumberland was one of 40 Bluefish Swim Club members to qualify and participate at the New England Swimming Long Course Open Championship, July 27–30, at MIT, Cambridge, MA, which consisted of 37 scoring teams and more than 215 scoring swimmers. The Bluefish Swim Club ranked 6th overall with 899 points.
For her top races, Katie ranked 5th in the 200-meter fly with a swim time of 2:24:70, and 14th in the 100-meter fly (1:07:05).
With 17 qualified 8–12 year old Bluefish Swim Club members competing at the New England Swimming Long Course 12 & Under Championships, July 20–July 24 at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, the team ranked 12th overall with 391.5 points. The meet consisted of 53 New England teams with 467 total swimmers. There were three Rhode Island Bluefish members who were top performers at this meet:
Bethany Douglas, 12, of Cumberland ranked 6th overall for the 11–12 Girls with 112 points. For her top races, she earned 4th place in the Female 11–12 100-meter fly with a swim time of 1:13:56, 200-meter IM (individual medley) (2:41:27), 50-meter breaststroke (39:21), and 200-meter breaststroke (2:59:32); 5th place in the 200-meter fly (2:45:77) and 400-meter IM (5:26:83); 6th place in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:24:75); and 8th place in the 50-meter fly (33:93). Bethany was also a member of two Bluefish relay teams, which earned 8th place in the 400-meter freestyle (4:37:57) and 10th place in the 200-meter medley relay (2:26:64).
Danny Beisel, 12, of Saunderstown, RI, ranked 17th overall for the 11–12 Boys with 59 points. For his top races, he earned 5th place in the Male 11–12 200-meter fly (3:07:05), 9th place in the 200-meter breaststroke (3:16:97) and 1,500-meter freestyle (20:38:54), 10th place in the 200-meter backstroke (2:50:19) and 400-meter IM (6:02:71), 12th place in the 400-meter freestyle (5:18:35) and 800-meter freestyle (10:55:37), and 15th place in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:33:93).
For her top races, 12-year-old Kelsi Oresman of No. Providence earned 9th place in the Female 11–12 400-meter freestyle (5:05:01), 11th place in the 50-meter breaststroke (40:25) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:27:58), and 13th place in the 100-meter backstroke (1:19:01) and 200-meter breaststroke (3:09:32). Kelsi was also a member of three Bluefish relay teams, which earned 8th place in the 400-meter freestyle (4:37:57) and 200-meter freestyle relay (2:09:97), and 10th place in the 200-meter medley relay (2:26:64).
The Bluefish Swim Club has been owned by Chuck and Christie Batchelor since September 2005. This year, in addition to its youth competitive program, the Bluefish Swim Club added an adult Masters Program, as well as swim lessons for youngsters just learning to swim.
