The Great Blue Heron To Benefit The Audubon Society Of Rhode Island
The fifth annual Roseberry-Winn Collectors Tile, The Great Blue Heron, was produced in collaboration with The Audubon Society of Rhode Island, with a portion of the proceeds directly supporting the many environmental education programs led by the Society.
Familiar to so many New Englanders, the Great Blue Heron was chosen for the 2009 Collectors tile to represent the biodiversity that resides in Rhode Island. Embossed into high fire porcelain, every tile is hand dipped in a glaze formulated to pool into the low relief surface further accentuating the design. The tile comes with cork feet so it works as a trivet on the table or may be simply hung on the wall with a plate hanger as a decorative accent. It is available in all 15 of the Roseberry-Winn glazes, however the Aqua glaze (a pastel water blue) and the Sapphire glaze (a deep cobalt blue) seem perfectly suited for the tile. The Great Blue Heron Collectors Tile retails for $35 and can be bought directly from the Roseberry-Winn pottery store in Tiverton Four Corners, by phone at 401-816-0010, through the website at www.roseberrywinn.com or at the Audubon Society of Rhode Island Nature shops in Bristol or Smithfield, The Audubon Society of Rhode Island is an independent, not-for-profit environmental organization dedicated to statewide environmental education, conservation and advocacy. Audubon is one of the largest environmental educators in Rhode Island, reaching over 30,000 students of all ages each year. Since acquiring its first wildlife refuge is 1924, the Society has grown to become the largest private landholder in Rhode Island. It now protects nearly 9,500 acres of wildlife habitat for future generations. Many of its wildlife refuges are open to the public for wildlife viewing and enjoyment. To learn more about Audubon Society of Rhode Island, please call 401-949-5454 or visit www.asri.org. Roseberry-Winn came into being in 1997 when Michael Roseberry decided it was time to leave a secure job in publishing and join studio potter Bruce Winn to take on the challenge of their lives. In search of a little more legroom to start a new business, they picked up and moved from the New York City area to Rhode Island. Their pottery and tile gallery is now within a charming 1840’s Georgian Revival house in the coastal village of Tiverton Four Corners. They produce a line of high fire porcelain vases, dinnerware, serving ware as well a line of decorative tile. All the work is embossed with original low relief pattern then finished with a satin matte glaze that is formulated to pool, accentuating and highlighting the depth in the patterns. All work is available in their current palate of 15 glaze colors. Roseberry-Winn Pottery and Tile is located at 3842 Main Road, Tiverton Four Corners, Rhode Island, 02878.
