Adopt A Doctor Hosts Art Auction To Pay Salaries Of Medical Doctors In Africa
Adopt a Doctor, the international non-profit based in Providence, is hosting its 3rd annual Art Auction. All proceeds go to support the mission of Adopt a Doctor, which provides financial assistance to medical doctors in four of the world’s poorest countries.
The auction will take place on Thursday, June 11, 5:30pm at Hotel Providence, 139 Matthewson Street in downtown Providence. Admission to the event is free, and scores of door prizes will be provided. Robb Dimmick, well-known actor and educator, will serve as the event’s auctioneer. Roger King Fine Art in Newport has donated artwork to support Adopt a Doctor’s worthwhile initiative. Prominent artists from Rhode Island have provided art for auction-goers, as well. Highlights of Adopt a Doctor’s auction include a painting from Gretchen Dow Simpson, the 2009 recipient of an honorary doctorate from Bryant University whose critically-acclaimed work has been featured as covers for The New Yorker magazine; photographs from Brown University professor Kerry Stuart Coppin, whose interpretive photography of urban Africa and the African Diaspora is on display at museums and galleries throughout the world; and a painting from Barrington’s Howard Windham, a recipient of both Fulbright and National Endowment for the Arts grants and whose work has been shown in galleries at Brown University, RISD, and Providence College, among many others. Ray Rickman, president of Adopt a Doctor, stated, “As a rough estimate, nearly 5,000 lives are saved annually from the presence of each medical doctor practicing in the world’s poorest nations. Adopt a Doctor seeks to play a role in affecting lives in an area of the world that needs our assistance the most.” “It is truly wonderful to receive support from artists and local galleries for a cause that has global impact,” added Chris and CC Wall, co-chairs of the auction. “Not only will auction-goers have the opportunity of adding to their collections, they will have the satisfaction of knowing that every dollar spent translates to lives being saved.” Chris and C.C. Wall from Residential Properties, Rhode Island’s leading real estate agency, are honorary co-chairs of the event. Adopt a Doctor, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Providence, was established to supplement the salaries of medical doctors in Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone, and Malawi. These countries have fewer medical doctors than almost any other nations in the world. Click here for more information Home Bottom
