RI History/Heritage Guests will tour the interior of the 1793 Slater Mill where they will find out about the women who worked in, worked for and owned the mills They will view the newly lighted Slater Dam, the first dam erected on the Blackstone River. They will also tour our colonial era house and focus on domestic life at the start of the 19th century. Their visit will end in the parlor of the 1758 Sylvanus Brown House. Once guest arrive at the Sylvanus Brown House they will be provided with a traditional tea, including a variety of baked goods, served in front of a welcoming fire. Guests will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a nineteenth century staple and a 21st century luxury – warm fellowship in a candlelit, convivial atmosphere. Cost is $20.00 per person/ $15.00 for Slater Mill members. The Candelit Tour & Tea will be held at 7:00 pm on February 16 and March 16, 2006. Space is limited; reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance. Call 401 725-8638. Slater Mill is a private not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserve the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution, promote the arts and culture and provide enjoyable educational opportunities for all ages.
