T. F. GREEN AIRPORT HOLIDAY TRAVEL TIPS

The upcoming Columbus Day travel weekend at Green Airport is expected to be heavier than usual, with carriers reporting increased passenger loads.

Starting Thursday, October 7 through Tuesday, October 12, early projections indicate heavier traffic for the weekend. Passengers are asked to be mindful of longer lines associated with heavier travel and to schedule their arrival at the airport at least two hours prior to their departing flight.

Parking rates for the Long term lot (E), which is the most popular option for extended travel, are $11/day and $56.00 weekly. Rates in Garage B are $15/day with an easy walk to the terminal. Those using airport parking should plan extra time to arrive at the airport, since lots fill up quickly.

Additional personnel will be on hand to assist with the extra volume, including the Johnson & Wales Ambassadors from the Information booth on the lower level.

The Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and airline tenants want to reiterate the following to minimize wait time at the checkpoints:

Arrive Early: Although the suggested arrival time at the airport varies by carrier, travelers should be aware that the lines will be longer at both the ticket counters and the security checkpoint during peak travel times. Those peak times are for departing flights scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Passengers are encouraged to check with their carrier, but should be aware that more flights are scheduled to leave Green at these specified times and plan accordingly. Additionally, in the event of inclement weather, customers are advised to check with their carrier for delays or cancellations.

Required documentation: Governmentally issued photo Id’s must be presented with tickets at check-in and at the security checkpoint. Passengers are required to present a ticket, itinerary and boarding pass with the date of departure and the passenger’s name.

Pack Smart: Travelers should remember to pack appropriately and be knowledgeable about what can and cannot be placed in carry-on luggage. Film should be packed in carry-on bags, since checked baggage screening equipment can damage undeveloped film. It is suggested that passengers try to pack more into checked bags and carry less baggage. Travelers must remove outer coats, including sport jackets, prior to reaching the checkpoint to avoid delays.

Meeters and greeters are asked to connect with their party in the lower level baggage claim area and to check updated flight information on the airport website, www.pvdairport.com before driving to the airport.
