RI Arts/Culture Lori Amey and Heather Rose may not be squaring off per se at the Friday, Sept. 9, reopening of the Courthouse Center’s Music Series, but some may like to know just who is the state’s best female singer. Heather Rose has been selected as the Providence Phoenix’ Best Female Vocalist and this year won for Best Song as she fronted for The StereoBirds. Lori Amey, a relative newcomer, having only lived in Rhode Island since 2001, earned Best Female Vocalist honors in the recent Motif Music Awards readers poll, as well as single-handedly garnering more votes than any solo act or band. Basically, more people voted for Amey than U2 or Greenday! Both women bring outstanding vocal abilities, though with different styles and sensibilities. Amey sooths with sultry sounds, and softly spins her Folk into a Jazz-lounge atmosphere. Rose brings a country twang and touts artists such as Sheryl Crow and Tori Amos as influences. Both women have the ears of fans and the pens of music writers waiting on each note. You figure out which readers’ poll you side with at The Courthouse Center for the Arts, Route 138 in Kingston, Friday, Sept. 9. Door open at 7 p.m., show at 7:30, with a $5 cover, BYOB, food served.
