"We feel fortunate and privileged to have F. A. Bartlett Tree Experts as our major sponsor," said Flower Show Co-chairs Bettie Beardon Pardee and Dollie Briggs. "This is an appropriate and welcome partnering for two organizations committed to the preservation of great American landscapes."
Bartlett will also be an integral part of the Flower Show's education series, with company experts providing workshops and lectures on the rare and historic trees that are found on the grounds of the Newport Mansions, as well as providing on-site advice to gardeners about the trees in their own backyards.
The 2005 Newport Flower Show, "As Time Goes By," expands to three days for the first time, opening to the public from noon to 5 p.m. on Friday, June 24, and Saturday and Sunday June 25 & 26 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rosecliff's elegant reception rooms and outdoor terrace will be filled with spectacular floral arrangements and horticulture displays.
Floral designer extraordinaire Ron Morgan of San Francisco will headline the weekend-long educational program, with a Saturday lecture and a Sunday workshop. Children will once have their own special corner of the Flower Show, with design and horticulture classes and workshops especially for them.
The public will also enjoy a unique garden marketplace, with shopping among dozens of vendors on the grand back lawn of Rosecliff, as well as an Oceanside Café.
Proceeds from the show benefit the ongoing historic landscape restoration efforts of The Preservation Society of Newport County, a non-profit educational organization accredited by the American Association of Museums and dedicated to preserving and interpreting the area's historic architecture, landscapes and decorative arts. Its 11 historic properties—five of them National Historic Landmarks—span more than 250 years of American architectural and social development.
