The Society of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick of Providence, one of the oldest Irish American fraternal organizations in the United States, will honor Michael E. McMahon, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation at their 105th Anniversary Dinner, to be held Thursday, March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day) at well-known Providence restaurateur (Pot au Feu) Bob Burke’s “The Federal Reserve.”

Mr. McMahon will be presented with the organization’s venerable “Man of the Year” award, recognizing his business and community-related initiatives throughout the state as leader of the entity responsible for Rhode Island’s business recruitment and development. Past recipients of this award have included Justice (and former Warwick Mayor) Francis X. Kennedy, and former CCRI President Edward Liston.

The organization will also honor its annual scholarship winner, chosen from among top students at all Providence-based high schools, and is planning a special variation on its annual Distinguished Service Award to recognize our service personnel serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and around the world.

Authentic Irish and Irish-American fare, including “hand-corned” corned beef will be on Chef Bradford Richardson’s menu, and the evening will also include performances by the Goulding Irish Step dancers and authentic Irish music by “Celtic Gals n’Al”.

Jim Simmons, President of the Friendly Sons and Principal at the Providence-based law firm Nadeau and Simmons, is Chairman of this year’s event.

Festivities are scheduled to begin at 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 17th. The Federal Reserve is located at 60 Dorrance Street in Providence.
