Heart Goes Red For Women

Gallery Z Teams Up With The American Heart Association To Promote Awareness Through The Arts

Gallery Z and the American Heart Association are pleased to present the “heART Goes Red For Women” featuring work from 27 emerging and established artists exploring emotional depths through various mediums representing relationships of the heart.

The exhibition runs February 8 – March 12. Ten percent of net proceeds from the sales in the exhibit will benefit the American Heart Association which provides support for lifesaving research, along with community and professional educational programs in the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke. The Opening Reception will be held Thursday, February 17, 2005 from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Gallery Z, 259 Atwells Avenue, Providence Rhode Island.

“Art evokes emotion and the heART exhibition provides a unique venue to create awareness and reach audiences in a deeper way. Go Red For Women is wrapped in strong visual imagery, owning the color red and the Red Dress as the symbols for women and heart disease” said Miriam Plitt, Chair of the American Heart Association Rhode Island Board of Directors.

Over 100 artists responded to a call for submissions last fall. Artists were allowed to submit any interpretation of the theme “Go Red For Women. The pieces submitted reflect the celebration of women and heart health and the color, red, as a symbol of personal empowerment. Judges will recognize three artists who achieved the highest visual interpretation of the awareness campaign at the end of the exhibition with 1st ($1000), 2nd ($500), and 3rd ($250) place prizes. In addition all artists exhibiting will be acknowledged by the American Heart Association.

“Coronary heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America. It is vitally important for women to reduce their risk factors, know the warning signs, and know how to respond quickly when warning signs occur. This exhibit is one way we can raise awareness about heart disease in women and encourage them to live stronger, healthier lives. We are thankful that Gallery Z and the Artist Community has partnered with the AHA to support this cause,” said Bill Koconis, regional vice president, Rhode Island American Heart Association.

“We are very excited to collaborate with the American Heart Association and help bring awareness to such an important issue. This exhibition demonstrates our commitment to bring attention through visual arts to the real issues that are present in our lives and that touch all of us,” states Berge Ara Zobian, proprietor and curator of the gallery.
