Guest Chefs From Kinsale, Ireland To Take Over The Kitchens Of Newport Restaurants March 3-6, 2005
March 3-6, 2005 Newport, Rhode Island will once again play host to some of the most talented chefs of the Emerald Isle during the 6th Annual Kinsale, Ireland Festival of Fine Food, an international culinary extravaganza! The Kinsale, Ireland Festival of Fine Food kicks off Newport’s annual Irish Heritage Month, which features an exciting Calendar of Events including an Irish Coffee contest, Jameson Irish Whiskey tastings, interesting lectures, and the nation’s longest running St. Patrick’s Day parade! Kinsale, Ireland is a picturesque port community known as the “Gourmet Capital of Ireland” that places emphasis on fresh seafood such as lobsters, salmon, oysters, and other ocean delicacies- an ideal match for Newport! “Twinned” with Newport in May 1999, the fine chefs of the sister cities annually celebrate their talents with a culinary exchange in which the Irish chefs travel to Newport to whip up mouth-watering menus and share secrets with the chefs of local restaurants. Later in the year, the Newport chefs will travel to Ireland to spread some American flavor. Some of Newport’s most celebrated chefs will be taking part in the 6th Annual Kinsale, Ireland Festival of Fine Food. This year’s featured chefs are Dan Knerr, of The Black Pearl Restaurant; Eric Steinhauer of Fathoms at the Newport Marriott; Nick Violette of La Forge Casino Restaurant; Robert Daugherty of the Windward Grille at the Newport Hyatt Regency; and Nathan Patenaude, representing Busker’s Irish Pub & Restaurant. The mouth-watering festivities will be as follows: Thursday, March 3: Taste of Kinsale, Ireland The opening event of the festival will feature appetizer sized samplings of the international chef’s creative cuisines. Celtic music and libations will be complemented by Murphy’s Irish Stout, official beer of the Kinsale, Ireland Festival of Fine Food, and Jameson Irish Whiskey, also a major sponsor of the festival. Tickets are only available in advance at the Newport Visitors Information Center, 23 America’s Cup Avenue for $50. Tickets are limited and will be on a first come- first served basis. Friday, March 4: Dine Out… Irish Style! City-wide The visiting Irish chefs take over Newport’s kitchens and prepare specialized menus, serving up tasty and creative fare. Participating restaurants (listed above) will be accepting reservations in advance. Saturday, March 5: 2nd Annual Jameson Irish Coffee Competition Newport Marriott Hotel Atrium, 2 - 3 p.m. Restaurants from all over Rhode Island will compete for the title of Best Creative and Best Traditional Jameson Irish Coffee. Sunday, March 6: Irish Brunch Newport Hyatt Regency, 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. This grand finale will feature a traditional Irish spread including specialty menu items made with Murphy’s Irish Stout such as Murphy’s Cheesecake and Murphy’s Irish Stout Stew, diners will be entertained by Irish step dancing, Irish story-telling, Jameson Irish Whiskey Tastings, and more!
