Saturday's 13th Annual Mardi Gras Ball at the Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet

Ballroom is one of the only authentic Louisiana Mardi Gras celebrations in

southern New England. The event is costume optional with a variety of

prizes for best costumes. A portion of the proceeds from this event benefit

Very Special Arts, RI, an organization dedicated to giving physically and

mentally challenged Rhode Islanders a chance to develop and fulfill their

artistic potential.

Four top notch bands and extended hours make this yearıs event a

standout. The Grammy-nominated Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys have been

dazzling audiences with their hybrid swamp pop/Cajun/zydeco brand of party

music which includes rich harmonies. Chris Ardoin fast became a favorite

with his infectious, energetic groove, when introduced a few years ago at

the Ball and then at the Rhythm & Roots Festival. His new CD, Sweat is due

out March 4th. His cousin Dexter Ardoin made a strong impression at his

festival debut this past September performing the music which lies at the

roots of contemporary Cajun and zydeco. For their first time on the bill,

one of the Northeast's most popular zydeco acts, Lil' Anne & Hot Cayenne,

add their spicy blend of rock, blues, and funk with a zydeco beat.

Authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine will be offered for sale throughout the

night.
