Bruins Lose In Portland

Road Trip Concludes Sunday In Lowell

The Providence Bruins played the fifth of six consecutive road games on Saturday night in Portland, falling, 4-1 to the Pirates.

Providence mounted a furious comeback effort in the third period, outshooting the Pirates 23-6, and 39-29 overall. The Bruins remain tied with the Worcester IceCats for third place in the Atlantic Division with their 19-12-2-5 record (45 points).

Providence left wing Jay Henderson scored his fourth goal of the year, assisted by Ben Guite and Darrel Scoville.

Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 19 shots in 30:39 of work, and is now 16-10-3 on the season. Cody Rudkowsky replaced him at 10:39 of the second period, and stopped six of the seven shots he faced.

The Bruins’ road swing concludes on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., when they visit the Lowell Lock Monsters. Catch all the action live on WDDZ AM-550 and online at www.providencebruins.com.

The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 14 at 7:05 p.m. and the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, January 16 at 4:05 p.m. The first 4,000 fans in attendance on Friday will receive a free Providence Bruins hat, courtesy of the Rhode Island Lottery and WPRI CBS-12.
