Bed and Breakfasts (B&B's) are a popular form of lodging in Rhode Island. There are many grand old houses with sweeping layouts, begging for visitors, cozy little cottages with an empty room and friendly hosts, and the occasional historic inn -- all waiting to take in weekend and summertime visitors. How many? Well over 200 and counting.
The prices are usually in the same range as hotels, but often it's cheaper,
particularly in Newport, where the hotels tend to be upscale. But rather
than the hotel experience, it's more like staying with friends. (And where
are you going to get a hotel that has four-poster beds, antiques, fireplaces, and tea cozys?)
Even if you're not coming in from out of state, sometimes a B&B
is just the right place for a personal retreat from your normal life.
This list of B&B's is constantly changing. Some B&B's are seasonal,
some are sold and become completely private homes, and others are
opening all the time. RI Roads' listings include "country inns", which are close
cousins to the B&B's. If you know of a listing that we don't have,
