From diners and taverns to White House menus and vintage microwaves
Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts Museum
RI Travel Article by Tim Lehert
I entered the Culinary Arts Museum with trepidation, fearing endless exhibits of soup tureens and salad forks, broken up by instructional videos on braising and refrigeration. My worries, thankfully, proved groundless. The museum, housed at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, does focus on food, but in its broadest sense: how its preparation, marketing, and consumption are part of American culture and history.

Unconditional Love Goes Both Ways
Giving back to those that we sometimes take for granted
RI Home and Family Article By Linda Eagleson
Animals are the best part of anyone’s life if you ask me. They love us unconditionally, love to play, stay by us when we are trying to nurse ourselves back to good health, and transform themselves into the most amazing parts of anyone’s life. And they need to be loved back. They need a good home, kept in good health, exercised and loved and nurtured every day of their short lives. That isn’t too much to give considering what we get back from them in return.

A Home Base for Your Boat
Why I love Apponaug Harbor Marina
RI Outdoors Article By George Boase
At one time or another, I think most of us have considered a waterfront home so we could have our boats close to us. Nothing says, “I’ve got mine” like having your boat at home. There’s also the convenience factor. If the weather and urge strikes, and you feel like a sail/cruise after a day’s work, just untie and off you go. There’s no travel time, schlepping supplies down to the marina, loading and unloading, and all the other bothersome tasks.

Winding Around the Ponds
A Visit to North Kingstown's Ryan Park
RI Outdoors Article By Linda Eagleson
Hiking has become quite a sport for many Rhode Islanders, my family included. In this marvelous state, we are never at a loss for a new trail to explore with our dogs, a backpack filled with goodies, and of course, a camera to capture the beauty of nature. Recently, we traveled to Ryan Park, located in the artsy town of Wickford, RI. Ryan Park is known for its attractive surroundings, such as an updated playground facility, numerous outdoor activities like softball and running track, and a superb hiking trail that takes you through dense forests and around lovely ponds.

RI DEM Says "Leave Those Birds Alone"
RI Outdoors Article
At this time of year, the Department of Environmental Management's Division of Fish and Wildlife receives many calls from people asking what to do with young birds and mammals that have been found alone, appearing to be orphans. But often, these creatures are actually under the watchful eye of a hidden parent, learning the important lessons of how to fly, how to feed themselves, or otherwise fend for themselves, says Lori Gibson, supervising wildlife biologist at DEM.

Elegance On The Newport Cliff Walk
Chanler Hotel, Newport RI
RI Travel Article By Paul Pence
A few months ago, my wife and I had a chance to stay at the Chanler Hotel in Newport. As travel writers, we had been the guests of many excellent hotels and restaurants, but we were completly amazed that we would have a place as elegant as the Chanler right here in Rhode Island. And Newport's Cliff Walk, is exactly where a mansion-turned-hotel should be.

Block Island's Race Week
A New England Sailing Tradition Doubles as One of Nation’s Most Popular Race Weeks
Rhode Island Outdoors Article
Since 1965 when it was first held, the Storm Trysail Club’s biennial Block Island
Race Week has been a staple in the lives of New England’s most dedicated racing sailors.
Now with 44 years of tradition behind it, the event has steadily grown into one
with national appeal, consistently attracting over 200 entries and partnering with
some of the sport’s most committed sponsors, including presenting sponsor Rolex. It
is fair to say, in fact, that Block Island Race Week presented by Rolex is now one
of the most popular sailing Race Weeks in America.

Valet Parking
Auto theft with permission?
Humor Column by Greg Gagliardi
I’d like to address the issue of valet parking because, quite frankly, I think
it’s the worst system in the world. If I was still on that library kick, I’d
add that Dewey Decimal — if that is his real name — would be laughing in his grave.
Now I understand that this is a “fancy” way to park because someone is doing the
parking for you, and anytime someone does something for you, it’s automatically
fancy. The same ideology is what makes room service more than just expensive food.
