Grand Canyon Marathon: Mile High Run on the Edge

On November 12th, 2011 runners will gather at
the Grand Canyon South Rim to compete in the Run on the Edge Grand Canyon Full
Marathon and Tusayan for the Half-Marathon.  The 26.2 mile marathon course
covers terrain over a mile high in elevation between 6,500 and 7,000 feet making
it one of the highest elevation marathons in the U.S. and it is a USTAF
certified Boston Marathon Qualifier event. The race ends in Tusayan, the
entrance community to the National Park, at the National Geographic Visitor
Center IMAX. Celebrations and awards accompanied by live music, massages, and
food will be staged in Tusayan.

 

The
full marathon course begins inside the National Park at Hermits Rest on the West
Rim Drive where contestants run along the rim of the Grand Canyon.  A limited
number of entry spots are still available and runners can register online at www.grandcanyonmarathon.com.

Marathon
festivities will include special carb dinners, marathon bowling, billiards, live
entertainment, and food & beverage specials.  Marathon Specials including

Proceeds from the Grand Canyon Marathon go to the Grand Canyon Recreation
Center. The Marathon and half Marathon were created in 2008 by the Grand Canyon
Recreation Center to support scholarships for college bound Grand Canyon High
School students.
