Rhode Island's climate is one of exceptions. It's four-season, but milder than the rest of New England. Summers get hot enough to go swimming, but many Rhode Islanders believe that air conditioning is a waste. Winters will freeze the ponds, but seldom go below the teens. There will usually be a half-dozen snowfalls of 6-8", but Rhode Islanders still talk about The Blizzard Of '78. In general, NW Rhode Island has the coldest winters and hottest summers, with more coastal portions of the state being more moderate.
