A quiet nightspot with micro-brewed beer and good food
By Mat Johnson and Brian Maksymowicz
The first thing that you notice when you step inside Union Station are the large copper kettles that hold the micro-brewed beers that they are known for. Further into the restaurant you can’t help but notice the calming atmosphere.
The wait staff is friendly; the restaurant itself is very clean and the patrons eating and drinking there are all very welcoming. Regulars and Union Station first-timers are all treated to the same level of service. A multi-level dining area allows for a large party of friends to eat and drink… or you can choose their booths, which are intimate enough for a date.
Although the restaurant is based around the bar, the food menu is diverse. Plain eaters will be happy to find a simple burger. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the Southern Fried Chicken smothered in Southern style gravy with artichoke hearts, shrimp and Polish kielbasa. Along with their regular selection of food, there is a seasonal menu -- all with in house beer recommendations from the brewer, Carl. Since Union Station is known for brewing their own beer, first-timers should try the sample tray of their selection of lagers to get a good idea of the variety.
The only drawback when visiting the brewery is the parking. There are only two options available when parking -- the parking garage and the street. Even though the parking garage offers security and almost no walking distance to the restaurant, it cost some bucks to park. On the other hand there is the street, which has no security but is free.
All in all we feel that most people who want a nightspot with a calm atmosphere and good service will find their visit to Union Station to be a pleasant one.
