Exciting variety of live musical performances to sweep Newport in the summer of 2005! Whether you have an ear for contemporary or classical, jazz or good ole’ folk, the sounds coming from Newport this summer will surely be music to your ears when four major music festivals boogie their way through the city-by-the-sea!
The Newport Music Festival, July 8-24, brings a change of pace to Newport’s scene, when music lovers relax in the grandeur of breathtaking Gilded Age mansions and listen to fine performances featuring 19th century chamber music, vocal repertoire and the Romantic-era piano literature, creating one of the most unique and extraordinary festivals in the world. The festival will present more than sixty concerts—three to five each day set in Newport’s famed mansions with American and international artists performing. For additional information and a complete concert schedule, please visit www.NewportMusic.org.
The Dunkin Donuts Newport Folk Festival (www.NewportFolk.com), one of Newport’s most appreciated and anticipated events returns to scenic Fort Adams on August 5-7. Featuring the industry’s best talents, the festival is a weekend musical extravaganza with on-going performances on multiple stages overlooking scenic Newport Harbor. This year’s event will feature and expanded schedule of events with a newly added Friday night concert performance by Arlo Guthrie and Nanci Griffith on August 5 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The music plays on through the weekend of August 12 -14 at the JVC Jazz Festival-Newport (www.FestivalProductions.net). An icon in the world of jazz music, the JVC Jazz Festival-Newport is always a memorable experience for jazz connoisseurs and can be an ear-opening experience for new fans! That will certainly be the case this year when the festival welcomes Eartha Kitt for a Friday evening event at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and then the fun continues on Saturday and Sunday with world-class performers including Wynton Marsalis, Patricia Barber, Carla Bley, Dave Bruebeck, Chick Corea, and Christian McBride.
From jazz and classical to folk and rock, Newport is bursting with must-hear music this summer! To be sure not to miss a note, get advance tickets and plan your trip to the city-by-the-sea today.
