Providence has so many different night clubs that you can go to that it can sometimes be a challenge to find out which ones are worth going to again and which you wish you got your money back for.

For example...

One night while driving around we came across the Keg Room. Now, the Keg Room is right in the heart of the club district, but don’t let that fool you; the Keg Room is very out of place.

For those of you that are handicapped, you'll need more than just a little good luck to get into the Keg Room, with their long flight of stairs up just to get to the club. Once you get there, the atmosphere and the bar are average at best. You have your option of two different rooms each offering different music, but that doesn’t matter since the sub-par sound system offers nothing but treble. Talking with your friends because of the massive amount of treble can be very difficult.

One room offers coin-op pool tables, which seemed nice until we decided to play and found out that not all of the balls were there. Even the pool cues were missing their tips. The other room has a dance floor that’s about as big as the average living room.

One of the only redeeming qualities about the Keg Room was its large screen TV above the bar in the dancing room. Overall, this was definitely not our style.

Then there is Finnegans Wake at the very end of Westminster Street. This was defiantly an experience for us. The reason we went there in the first place was that they advertise a lot on Hot 106 and they seemed to be a hot spot. The only thing hot at Finnegans though is the temperature inside because there is absolutely no room to move after 11.

This just makes everything difficult: getting another drink, going to the bathroom, flirting with anyone, even getting out. The getting out part was especially scary since there is only one way in and one way out and people were pushing to get in as we were pushing to get out.

Since Finnegans is a restaurant by day, it’s not really acoustically set up for a club sound system. And it shows. The music isn’t bad at all, but the system that delivers it needs work. The crowd there is your typical rowdy “sophomoric” college crew; young and immature. The “okay” music, the cramped bar and dance areas, and the bad breath of everyone mashed up against us made the club a generally unpleasant experience.

Don’t get us wrong, we’re not bashing these two clubs, but they have a lot of work to do to compete with the outstanding clubs that are within walking distance. You can check it out yourself (maybe on a Thursday night -- the “best” night to judge), but why put yourself thorough it? That's our job.
