Home of Tiverton Four Corners
Tiverton is an exquisite farming and seaside communitie not far from New Bedford, Newport or Providence. Well known Sakonnet Vineyards is about 10 minutes down the road from the historic crossroads, Tiverton Four Corners, in neighboring Little Compton.
To drive or cycle through these towns is to fall through Alice's looking glass into another world time left behind......wide tree-lined streets- similar to the European countryside, a working fishing village alongside working farms, spectacular views past bucolic pastures to the glistening bay, moss covered stone walls, old buildings, lovely homes, walking trails, beaches and a vineyard to behold. It is quiet, uncomplicated and rejuvenating. A perfect one day vacation!
Within this pastoral seacoast setting, is Tiverton Four Corners, an historical district that was brought back to life about 20 years ago and resembles a tiny colonial village. Just like days of yore, there are no chain stores, but tiny independent shops and galleries offering unique, often original and hand-crafted goods. More often than not, the owners will serve you. All of the shops are housed in historic buildings dating from the 1700s and 1800s.
The anchor establishment is often considered to be Provender Fine Foods gourmet shop and cafe. Provender was first opened 25 years ago, but was sold to the current owner, Jennifer Borden 15 years ago. This year Jennifer and Provender will celebrate its 15th anniversary as a favorite foodie hangout.
This list is constantly growing, thanks to suggestions from our readers.
