Glocester, Rhode Island

The area's history and settlement was not shaped by mills like much of Rhode Island, but by mining and quarrying, logging, and manufacturing. But desipite what may sound like heavy industry, Glocester has settled down into a quiet rural life for its ten thousand residents.

The "Ancients and Horribles Parade" is held every fourth of July -- it's a bit irreverent for a patriotic state like Rhode Island, but it's a whole lot of fun.

Glocester includes the villages of Chepachet, Clarkvile, West Glocester, Westcott, Cherry Valley Beach, Cherry Valley, Harmony, and Spring Grove. Outdoorsmen like the wildlife management areas and stocked lakes in the town.

For food, we highly recommend The Purple Cat, in Chepachet, though there are many excellent choices for food in the area.
