Only 4000 people live in Foster, a hilly and wooded town in western Rhode Island.

The township of Foster includes the villages of North Foster, Simmons Corner, South Foster, Foster Center, Clayville, Mount Vernon, and Moosup Valley. Both the Westconnaug Resivoir and the George B. Parker Woodland lie within the county.

Of special note is the highest point in Rhode Island, Jerimoth Hill. It's 812 feet above sea level, but pretty much invisible among the hills of northwest Foster. To look for it, get on Route 101 and head west. About a quarter mile before you reach the Connecticut state line, there will be a radio tower and a small house on the right. You're there. It may not seem like much, but it's higher than the highest point in Florida.

You might consider taking a different kind of ride in the country. Check out the Black Forest farm if you'd like horse riding instruction. For food, you might check out the Shadey Acres Restaurant on Route 6, or eat at the Foster Country Club's dining room.
